Talk to Your City or County

Is your city or county government taking steps to become stronger and more resilient? Get involved to learn what actions they’re taking, and how you can play a role in resilience as well.

Ways You Can Make Your Community More Resilient:

  • Talk to your local government officials: Find out what they’re doing now in response to climate change and extreme weather, and how they’re working to address energy security through renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives. Start a dialogue with government, business, and community leaders about how each can do their part to build resilience.
  • Ask your local elected officials to sign the Agreement: Action on resilience begins with a leadership commitment. Engage your local government about signing the Resilient Communities for America Agreement and joining leading cities and counties in this emerging movement to protect America, one community at a time.
  • Become a more resilient community member: Communities that bounce back the fastest from disasters like storms or heat waves are made up of resilient people and resilient neighborhoods. That means people who know their neighbors and look out for them, or are involved in community groups that strengthen ties and help one another prepare and respond to disasters. Find out what groups and resources are available in your community and get involved!
